It is a rare opportunity to build a manufacturing site from the ground up. It is even rarer to build and commission a new plant in the time we did.
Our manufacturing plant in Belleville, Ontario, opened its doors in 2007, making it the first new Kellogg North American manufacturing plant opened in more than 20 years. Saleable Kellogg products began rolling off assembly lines in January of 2008, 21 months after the April 2006 concept plan.
The 205,080 square feet, $100-million high-performance facility ensures a superior work environment, including state-of-the-art equipment designs from our North American Manufacturing Cereal Network and a modern and highly efficient sanitation and maintenance system.
Reflecting a strong commitment to the environment, the building design has a high R-value for energy savings, incorporating many energy-efficient systems like the use of energy-efficient lighting, high-efficiency equipment components and design, high-efficiency boilers, and the reduction of water usage and waste-water effluent. The office structure itself is constructed with recycled components.
Kellogg Canada worked closely with the city of Belleville, the Bay of Quinte region and the province of Ontario to make the project a reality.
Community Involvement
While the Belleville manufacturing facility is a recent addition to the City of Belleville and the Bay of Quinte Region, our community commitment has already begun.
To help celebrate the opening of the Belleville plant, Kellogg Canada made a donation to the local public library and the local food bank. The company continues to pursue partnerships with local charitable organizations and community groups in an effort to effect positive change in the community.
As a responsible corporate citizen, Kellogg Canada prides itself on being a good neighbour and productive member of the community. We look forward to continuing our company’s rich heritage of giving back to the communities where we work and live.
